Recumbent Trikes Near Chicago & Northwest Indiana
Searching for a recumbent trike near you?
You’re probably looking for answers to other questions:
Is this something that will work for me?
Will it really help me move more easily and confidently?
Is it worth making the trip to try one?
YOU’RE NOT ALONE. READ ON!
Not a “better bike.”
A better way to keep riding: without pain or instability.
Recumbents solve many of the problems you might assume are just part of cycling. If you love riding but can’t handle the usual aches—sore butt, tired wrists, stiff neck, constantly sliding on the saddle or pushing up on your knuckles trying to get comfortable—you might think it’s time to give up the pleasure of cycling.
Welcome to the world of recumbents!
A recumbent lets you enjoy the freedom of cycling without paying for it a few miles into the ride.
But the real question is: will it work for you?
Does your body — back, neck, wrists, seat — start to protest on a traditional bike?
Do you find yourself worrying more about balance than enjoying the ride?
Have you tried everything —modifying your existing bike, shortening your rides, “pushing through”— and it just isn’t working?
Do you love the idea of outdoor movement, but…
…you think that maybe cycling just isn’t for you at your age, physical condition, weight …or fill-in-the-blank?
We hear these same questions every day.
And helping people answer them — honestly, and without pressure — is exactly what we’re here for.

Most people who find their way here aren’t looking for something flashy.
They’re looking for something that works — for their body, their pace, their life
Why recumbent trikes?
COMFORT • SUPPORT • STABILITY
Recumbent trikes change the position, the balance, and the experience of riding. The comfortable, reclined seat supports the full length of your back.
Your weight is spread across a large surface area rather than perched between your sit-bones and wrists.
Your back is relaxed and lengthened, not compressed
No pressure, no numbness, no constant repositioning.
No more unsteady balancing at stops
You can ride at your own pace without feeling unstable
Simply put, recumbents change how riding feels. For many people, they make movement feel easy again.

So, what does it feel like?
It feels like relief!
And surprise —about how far you can ride without any punishing effects you thought were part of cycling. On a recumbent:
You sit down.
Begin pedaling.
Instead of bracing yourself… you relax. Look at the scenery.
And you keep going —because it feels good.
There’s usually a moment when “I’m not sure…” becomes “Yes, I can!”
This is why people drive across the region to the closest shop where they can try a recumbent.
But will you actually use it?
Fair question. Some people love recumbents so much they structure a life around them. But just as easily, you can fit a recumbent into your life as it is. It doesn’t matter whether you build an entire routines around your trike, or use it whenever it seems right to you to get out, move, and clear your head.
There are many places to ride a recumbent trike throughout the greater Chicagoland area—bike paths, quiet neighborhood streets, and regional trails within an easy drive— whether you’re a daily rider or a weekend warrior.
Either way, you get to keep the enjoyment of riding outdoors as part of your life.
WHERE CAN YOU TRY BEFORE YOU BUY?
A local shop, not a warehouse
Cosmic Bikes is not an online warehouse shipping boxes. We’re a small, independent, couple-run shop offering personalized service to riders from across the region:
Chicago, suburbs and downstate Illinois
Northwest Indiana
Southwest Michigan
Southern Wisconsin
People even visit us from the wider surrounding region, because they want to try and compare a variety of recumbents before making a decision. We specialize in recumbents and alternative bikes — not as a side category, but as a core part of what we do.
This means we listen to your concerns, understands what issues you’re trying to solve, and come up with real solutions.
What happens when you visit
A typical visit is simple and low-pressure: you can simply stop in, bring your preliminary questions, look around and make sure you’re comfortable here. Maybe sit on a couple of trikes to see how they feel.
Once you decide you want to test ride, you can set up an appointment so we can give you our undivided attention:
Plan on about 45–60 minutes (some riders need more time, and that’s OK)
We’ll talk briefly about what problems you’re trying to solve
You may have an eye on a specific model, or we can recommend some for you to try based on our discussion.
We’ll make small fit adjustments for a comfortable test ride (we do a full detailed fitting when a trike is purchased)
You’ll test ride on an off-street trail at the park on our block.
You don’t have to figure this out alone
You do not need any special experience, and there’s no pressure to buy anything or make on-the-spot decisions.
Some people know right away. Others need time to consider and decide, or even come back a second time. This is all par for the course.
If you’ve been wondering whether a recumbent might work for you, the best next step isn’t more research: it’s trying one. If you’re ready to give it a go, you can schedule a test-ride, or just stop by and start a conversation.
Either way, you’ll begin to find answers to the questions that brought you here. At Cosmic Bikes, we help people find a way to exploring the world on their own power, their own terms, at a pace that keeps life visible
