ABOUT COSMIC BIKES
WHO WE ARE
Nick Wilson
Nick has worked with us almost continuously since 2007. He’s has set up countless vintage bike restorations, and more recently has been honing his recumbent setup skills. He’s a skilled wheelbuilder specializing in heavy-duty urban and touring wheels.
Peter Stodder
Peter has been with us since 1997, when he was born into this bike shop family. He's trained formally with us since 2014 and is a part time assembler, mechanic, and wheel builder.
When not working on bikes, Peter forages for mushrooms and tends his home aquaponics farm.
Chris Stodder
Co-Owner of Cosmic Bikes, Chris has worked on bikes for over 30 years, first from his back porch, later in a series of shops, before opening his own bike shop in 1994. Cosmic Bikes is his latest project.
In his spare time, Chris loves mountain biking, and building fires.
Justyna Frank
The other owner of Cosmic Bikes, Justyna is to blame for the whole thing, since it was her idea to open a bike shop back in the 90's. Since then she's put literally thousands of people on bikes. She'll talk Bromptons with you til the cows come home.
Justyna would rather go camping than do almost anything else.
In Loving Memory
Early 2026 took a heavy toll on our small shop, as we unexpectedly lost two beloved members of our staff. This would be a huge loss for any business, but it’s difficult to overstate its impact on a tight-knit, family-run shop
with fewer than five people on staff.
We appreciate all the kindness we’ve received from our community of friends and customers during this time. For those who have asked how they can help, we’ve created a simple way to contribute to Ronnie’s memorial.
Thank you.
Ronnie LoBello
March 20, 1954-March 29, 2026
Ronnie worked with us for over three decades. He repaired everything from vintage Schwinns to high-racer recumbents. He also helped build both of our shops from the ground up finishing floors, painting walls, building cabinets, displays and work stations.
He also created the iconic mural and maintained the wind-blown Schwinn Stingray which graced the corner of our old Wicker Park storefront for 20 years.
"Renaissance Man"
McD Doherty
November 13, 1971-January 15, 2026
Mark, aka “McD” was part of our crew since 2010, first as a novice mechanic, and eventually becoming our resident Brompton expert. He had a special affinity for all unusual bikes including folders and recumbents, not to mention choppers and tall bikes.
McD was known for his love tiny dogs, knives, and Margie’s Candies. He was a founding member of Chicago Rat Patrol.
