Test Ride a Recumbent Trike Near Chicago
Feel the Difference.
A short test ride will tell you more than hours of research
You Don’t Need More Research
You can pore over recumbent reviews and testimonials.
Watch videos, compare models and spec’s.
Ask questions in online groups
But none of that answers the real question:
How does this feel in your body?
A test ride is all you need to get the answers.
What you’ll know in less than 15 minutes:
IS THIS RIGHT FOR ME?
A real-world test ride answers questions that the internet can’t:
Is this actually comfortable?
Does it feel stable and natural?
Can I see myself using this regularly?
Does my body relax—or resist?
That clarity is what most people are really looking for.

Test Ride FAQs
Do I need an appointment?
We highly recommend scheduling a time in advance, so we can ensure availability, give you proper attention and make your visit worthwhile.
I’ve never ridden a recumbent. Is that okay?
That’s most of our visitors. Recumbent trikes are not difficult to ride, but can feel a little awkward if you’ve never tried it. We’ll guide you through it.
What if I’m worried about balance?
That’s one of the main reasons people explore recumbent trikes. Stability is baked into the design.
Can this help with back or saddle discomfort?
For the majority of riders, yes. Comfort depends on the individual, but this is one of the most common reasons people turn to recumbents.
How long does a test ride take?
Even 10–15 minutes can be very revealing. Some customers take longer to compare various models. We set aside 45-60 minutes per appointment to allow for conversation, basic fitting and follow-up questions.
A test ride at Cosmic Bikes isn’t a performance test. It’s a guided first experience.

Preparing for Your Test Ride
You may wonder if there’s anything else you need to prepare for your test ride. Not really.
Recumbent trikes are highly adjustable. When you purchase one, we do a full, precise fit optimized for your size and proportions. But for the test ride, we’ll simply make sure you can comfortably reach the pedals and ride with confidence.
No special gear needed. Just wear comfortable, flexible clothing and flat shoes. We’ll take care of the rest.
Optional: X-Seam Measurement
If you’d like to help things run a bit more smoothly, you can provide your x-seam measurement when scheduling your visit (see image).
This gives us a helpful starting point—but it’s not required.

TRY BEFORE YOU BUY
A local shop, not a warehouse
Cosmic Bikes is not an online warehouse shipping boxes. We’re a small, independent, couple-run shop offering personalized service to riders from across the region:
Chicago and suburbs
Northwest Indiana
Southwest Michigan
Southern Wisconsin
People even visit us from the wider surrounding region, because they want to try and compare a variety of recumbents before making a decision. We specialize in recumbents and alternative bikes — not as a side category, but as a core part of what we do.
This means we listen to your concerns, understands what issues you’re trying to solve, and come up with real solutions.
What happens when you visit
A typical visit is simple and low-pressure: you can simply stop in, bring your preliminary questions, look around and make sure you’re comfortable here. Maybe sit on a couple of trikes to see how they feel.
Once you decide you want to test ride, you can set up an appointment so we can give you our undivided attention:
Plan on about 45–60 minutes (some riders need more time, and that’s OK)
We’ll talk briefly about what problems you’re trying to solve
You may have an eye on a specific model, or we can recommend some for you to try based on our discussion.
We’ll make small fit adjustments for a comfortable test ride (we do a full detailed fitting when a trike is purchased)
You’ll test ride on an off-street trail at the park on our block.
WHO THIS IS FOR?
Most people who come in looking for recumbents aren’t “bike shoppers.” They’re searching for a different way to move. With less discomfort. Less compromise.
More freedom.
You too might be here because:
riding a traditional bike has become uncomfortable
you want more stability and confidence
you haven’t ridden in a while, but want to start again
you’ve seen recumbents and they seem so promising, but you’re not sure
you feel like riding should still be possible—but something isn’t working
That’s exactly where a test ride helps.
