Before you bring your bike in for service

Workflow management in a seasonal business is a funny thing. We can easily go from twiddling our thumbs and forlornly looking out the window for the first two months of the year, to suddenly having a 2-week backlog of repairs in one weekend.

We are currently at this point.

As much as we would like to offer everyone quality service, it is simply not possible for us to accept all walk-in repairs, while ensuring excellent results and keeping turn-around times reasonable.

During our busy season, we have to implement some ground rules to keep everyone sane. Here they are:

Appointments:

  • An appointment is REQUIRED for a tune-up, overhaul, new bike assembly (for bikes purchased elsewhere), or any service other than air-and-oil or a puncture repair on non-electric wheels. Appointments can be booked here.

  • The appointment is for drop-off and estimate only. At that time, we’ll inspect your bike and provide you with a complete quote, based on parts that may be needed and their availability. We won't know what parts are needed until we see your bike.

  • All appointments require a deposit. The deposit is NON-REFUNDABLE, but can be applied to future purchases in the event you can’t make your appointment, or decide against repairing your bike. Please consider your needs and commitment to your bike carefully before booking (see below).

  • Are you stuck? We can almost always fix an emergency flat. Other emergency repairs (broken chain? sheared derailleur? pedal fell off?) will be considered on a case-by-case basis.

Limitations

  • Did you buy your bike from us? Awesome! Please note that during the busy season, we cannot perform free tune-ups on bikes purchased from us. We can get you rolling with air and oil, and we will gladly deliver on the free tune-up after Labor Day (see New Bike Services).

  • We may decline to service electric bikes from brands we do not sell, and any bike purchased on the internet.

  • We do not repair electric scooters or other electric vehicles without pedals. We also do not repair anything with a combustion engine.

Other things of note:

Pricing Expectations: The labor to do a thorough tune-up at our shop is $185. This covers all labor on the external systems of the bike; no additional “hidden costs”. However, the majority of bikes needing this level of service also require a number of components to be replaced due to wear, damage and rider preference. The complete tune-up cost can often run between $300-$500, and more with optional upgrades.

Surcharges apply to electric bikes, cargo bikes, trikes, tandems and other non-standard or oversized bikes.

Timing: The actual repair can only be scheduled once we see your bike. The turn-around time is based on the extent of the work, the number of parts needed and their availability, and our workload. Typically, tune-ups are completed within 3-10 days of drop-off, but some may take longer.

Your commitment: We take enormous care and pride in the work that we do. Therefore, when you bring your bike to us for service, we assume that you care about your bike and the value it adds to your life. If not, our shop may not be the right match for you. We cannot bring back to life bicycles that were not properly made in the first place, or ones that have been neglected, left out in the elements and exposed to excessive corrosion.
