BROMPTON LINES & MODELS

The New Brompton Alphabet

Brompton introduced new Line and Model names in 2022.

While the new model designations were intended to make it easier for customers to choose the right Brompton for their needs, the changes have created some confusion.

What Changes and What Stays the Same

Here are the two key things you need to know about the changes:

  1. The iconic Brompton design, foldability, functionality and utility remain unchanged. The main changes were in the drivetrain and design tweaks of the P-Line (which replaced the Superlight Line).

  2. Customers can still choose form the same handlebar styles, gearing options and accessories as before, but the options will be grouped by function rather than by component choice.

C-LINE

This is the meat and potatoes of the Brompton line-up. The Core Line that you may already be familiar with was re-branded a couple of years ago.

Currently, instead of emphasizing component selection, the options are grouped by function:

  • Urban (2-speed). Best for: zipping around the city

With 2 gears, the C Line Urban is lighter to ride and carry than all other C Line models. And with one gear trigger, it’s simple to use. If your commute involves going up and down stairs, walking along platforms and getting in and out of elevators or Ubers, you’ll appreciate the benefits of this bike’s lower weight

    • Gears: 2-speed

    • Handlebar: choice of Low Mid or High

    • Mudguards: Included

    • Lighting: Optional

    • Rack: Optional

  • Utility (3-speed). Best for: all-around commuter.

The 3-speed steel bike with hub gear was the first Brompton made – a solid city rider built for the streets of London. The sealed gears are protected from grit, water and impact for longer life and less maintenance. Easy-to-use hub gears let you shift when stationary making the C Line Utility a solid choice for stop / start commutes, especially in areas that get a lot of precipitation.

    • Gears: 3-speed

    • Handlebar: choice of Low Mid or High

    • Mudguards: Included

    • Lighting: Optional

    • Rack: Optional

NOTE: The 3-speed option has been slowly phased out, and made available only on the A-Line (see below), and select “Archive Edition” Brompton models.

  • Explore (6-speed). Best for: travel, adventures and explorations within and outside the city.

You can load this 6-speed all-steel workhorse with luggage and a rack for all-weather commuting or touring, then go explore. This full-featured Brompton is equally at home in a big city or on an open road. Some owners have ridden these around the world.

    • Gears: 6-speed

    • Handlebar: choice of Low Mid or High

    • Mudguards: Included

    • Lighting: Optional

    • Rack: Optional

  • C-Line Bikes ate priced from $1550-$2150

All C-Line Bromptons allow for a choice of standard colors, or a solid premium finish.

P-LINE

These models feature the premium Brompton frames with titanium forks and rear triangles. This is where you will see some significant changes:

  • As with the Superlights which P-Line bikes supplant, titanium rear frame and forks make the bike considerably lighter (<22lbs) than the all-steel equivalent, without compromising strength. The redesigned suspension block maximizes responsiveness for improved control and handling performance. Titanium is naturally shock-absorbing, so you can feel the difference in the ride.

  • Enhanced portability. The new dual-locking seat post system has two positions, fully down for storing or halfway up for rolling. The larger and lighter rolling wheels, make it easy to maneuver through tight and busy spaces.

  • P-Line features the new proprietary superlight, compact gear system built for the city. The 4-speed system with an all-new 60-gram derailleur is meticulously engineered to fit inside the narrow fold, and delivers a similar ratio to the 3-speed and 60% more gear range than the 2.

  • The P-Line is equipped with Brompton’s lightest and sturdiest wheelset. The new rear hub was designed to accommodate the new drivetrain, and rigorously tested to withstand the demands of city riding. It’s fitted with hex key axles and a new hanger mount, so removing the wheel for roadside repairs or maintenance is quick and easy.

  • Priced from $2950

T-LINE

Brompton has teased its devoted audience with the introduction of the all-titanium T-Line model, and they have finally been made available to wider audiences. At 16.4 lbs for the single-speed model, and 17.5 lbs for the 4-speed, this is the lightest Brompton ever made. T-Line Bromptons come with carbon fiber fork, handlebar and crankset, steel-armored carbon seatpost, and premium details including self-aligning hinges and quick-release removable pedals.

Priced from $5225-$5500

A-LINE

This is the most budget-friendly Brompton replacing the model previously known as the B75. It shares the frame quality and folding mechanism and 3-speed drivetrain of the standard core Brompton, but utilizes some older-style components (shifter, handlebar, non-folding pedals), and does not offer options of handlebar, gearing or colors. A-Line bikes are available on a limited basis throughout the year.

A-Line features:

  • A robust all-steel frame handmade in London.

  • 3-gears tuned for city riding.

  • Handlebar: Mid

  • Colors: White Mainframe, Black Extremities

  • Pedals: non-folding

  • Mudguards: None

  • Rack: None

  • Lighting: None

  • Priced from $1150

ELECTRIC BROMPTONS

E-ASSIST option is available on C-Line (priced from $3700) or P-Line (priced from $4700) in similar configurations as their non-electric counterparts, and a few color options.
