Shop Policies & Guidelines

When you visit our store, we want you to be absolutely happy with your shopping experience, your purchases and the service we provide. We promise to treat you with fairness and honesty, to listen to your requests with an open mind, and explore solutions that will help you achieve the cycling experience you desire.

Although we strive to anticipate what would be a great bike shopping experience for you, we're human and we may not get it completely right every single time. So, we've created some guidelines that help us head off or correct possible pitfalls. "Policies" sounds inflexible, however we really prefer to find creative solutions that will satisfy you in the end, and help us improve our business.

If there is something you think we should be doing, please feel free to share your comments or observations with Justyna, Chris or any of our staff. We would love to hear what you think we do well, and where we could improve. To the best of our ability (but within the bounds of reason) we will try to satisfy your requests.

Satisfaction Promise
Our goal is always to do our best to ensure you are happy with the products and services you purchase from us. To that end, before your purchase, or before your service appointment, we’ll endeavor to make sure that we understand your expectations, and that our recommendations match them.

Service Estimates
A thorough estimate is the foundation of solid service, and can forestall surprises and unexpected costs down the road. Before we proceed with an estimate, we try to find out a little bit about you, your projected use of the bike, and your relationship to it. Please understand that we always recommend the most complete solution that will ensure the safety and longevity of the bike, and give you the best riding experience. If possible, we can scale the repairs to match your budget, as long as safe functioning is not compromised.

Labor Guarantee*
All of our major services carry 30 to 120-day labor guarantees. Please see our Service page for specifics. Bring your bike in within the period of time covered by the guarantee, and we will perform any needed adjustments or corrections free of charge (in some cases, additional parts may be required at an additional cost).

Price-Matching? Maybe.
If you find the identical product in stock at a lower advertised price at any local store, we will make a reasonable effort to match the price.


Not all products that seem alike are in fact identical. Our new bicycle assembly and the maintenance package, included with each new bike we sell, is of the highest quality available in the city. Only a handful of shops offer a comparable level of service, and we know who they are. Therefore, we can't promise you that we will be able to match the price on any bike that appears identical. But we can promise that the $10-50 you are likely to save by choosing a discounted bike will be more than offset in your first few weeks of riding by better performing and more durable product.

Another however...

Some local retailers engage in discounted internet sales, or aggressive price reductions that are not possible for us to match while running a sustainable neighborhood-based business. We will make every attempt to offer you the best value for your money, but we must do so in a manner that preserves our ability to fairly compensate our employees, and pay our landlord and vendors.

Internet and catalog prices are a tricky gray area. If you find an item at a great price, let's talk and see if it's really a good value, and what we can do to earn your business.

Our prices are sometimes subject to change without notice. Although we make every effort to ensure that prices on our website are accurate, occasionally there may be pricing errors. You will certainly be advised of the current price on any item or service before you decide to make a purchase.

We appreciate your understanding should any of the prices or other information provided be incorrect, and regret any inconvenience such mistakes may create. Please bring any errors you find to our attention on your next visit, or by calling or emailing us. Thank you!

Test Rides
We invite and encourage you to test ride any bicycle you consider for purchase. You will need to leave a valid Drivers License or State ID, and a major credit card with your own name on it while you are riding. We will also ask you to wear a helmet (we have loaner helmets for your convenience). Please see COVID-19 updates here.

Special Orders
We will gladly order you anything that is readily available from our vendors. We require full prepayment for any bicycles, parts and accessories purchased on special order.

Item availability

Due to overwhelming demand, products are selling out much more quickly this season. We strive to provide the most accurate availability information on our website, however product availability is always subject to change, and not always within our control. If the product you ordered in unavailable, we will promptly issue you a complete refund.


Because of increased demand and severe shortages in supply of bicycles, we are currently reserving the right to limit all online sales of all bicycles, including Bromptons, to local pick-up and free local delivery only

If you wish to purchase a bicycle from us and are outside of the immediate Chicago market area, you can text us at 773-930-4076 for instructions on how to submit an order. Please note that the following NO EXCEPTIONS policy will apply to all such orders:

To protect both parties in non face-to-face transactions, any items ordered from us can only be shipped to the address that matches the credit card billing address. In addition, before we ship to you, we may require the following:

  1. E-mailed copy of your current and valid Driver’s License or State ID with your name and the billing address matching that of the card you’re using, AND

  2. A 10-day waiting period before the item is shipped.

In-Store or Curbside Pickup

When picking up an order you place online through our website, please bring your photo ID for verification when picking up your purchase.

We understand that a bicycle purchase represents a significant investment that is not to be taken frivolously. That’s why we promise to work with you before you make a decision to purchase, to ensure that you end up with a solution that fulfills your expectations. However, we understand that things don’t always go as planned.

Stock bicycles in new condition may be considered for a refund within 7 days, or for exchange/store credit within 30 days of purchase. Other merchandise in unused condition and with original packaging may be considered for a refund or exchange within 30 days. No refunds on special order bikes, custom bikes, installed parts/accessories and sale merchandise. Any return will be accepted solely at Cosmic Bikes’ discretion.

Refunds will be given promptly in the following manner:

If you paid by credit card, we issue a refund to your credit card (Please note that credit card processors sometimes take longer to reflect a credit. Check with your bank regarding their processing times, as we have no control over the process.) For a cash purchase of $50 or less, we will give you a cash refund. For a cash purchase over $50, we will issue a refund by check.

Regardless of the original form of payment, we are always happy to issue your refund in the form of store credit.
